THE RISK THAT WAS  WORTH IT.

When is the last time you took a risk? How did it work out?

I took a risk and …………………. this happened

         How one risk changed everything,

It was a quiet Thursday evening when l sat staring at my half-packed suitcase. My plane was set to leave at 4 a.m., bound for Nairobi, and l hadn’t yet told a soul—not my boss, not my best friend, not even my mother.

For years, l had played it safe. Stable job, predictable routine, quiet weekends. But inside my chest, there was a constant hum, a whisper: There’s more.

Three weeks earlier, l had seen a post online: Volunteer photojournalist needed for wildlife conservation project. No experience necessary—just heart. My fingers hovered over the keyboard for a full hour before l hit Send on my application.

To my shock, l got in.

Now the suitcase sat on my bed like a dare. I thought of the comfort l was leaving behind—the salary, the safety net—and then of the unknown waiting ahead.

At 2:30 a.m., l stood outside with my bag, heart thumping louder than the taxi engine.

    The risk? It was real.

But so was the thrill when l stood days later, camera in hand, capturing elephants in golden sunrise and laughing with strangers who soon became friends.

It didn’t all go smoothly. I got lost in a game reserve once. My boots were stolen. My photos were rejected by three major publications. But the fourth said yes.

Today, one of my photos hangs in a conservation center in Nairobi, credited to ” Daya D.”

When l looks at it, l smile.

“Risk it. Live it. Tell a story
